Do you love the Dr Seuss story How the Grinch Stole Christmas as much as I do?

I think I’m a little obsessed!

So nobody was very surprised when I decided to go all out with Grinch Christmas decor.

I started with some Grinch yard decorations. (Yep, they’ve been up since before Thanksgiving!)

And was surprised how many outdoor decorations there are available. (I guess I’m not the only one who loves the Grinch).

Anyhow, here are my outdoor Grinch Christmas decorations (and some other ideas I can across in the process).

1 | Green and Red Lights

12 Awesome Grinch Outdoor Christmas Decor Ideas (2)

To start my yard off in the festive spirit, I covered all of my bushes in mini LED lights* in a green Grinch color.

They’re awesome because you can change their color (unlike traditional Christmas lights). So you can reuse the same light strings for different holidays with different color schemes.

The color is controlled by both a remote control and a button at the start of the string. (Just in case you lose the remote, you can still operate the lights).

Then I put red spot lights under the bushes (pointing up) as well as pointing up on the walls of the house.

I used these ones* (from Amazon). Like the string lights, they’re also color-changing and I think they’re perfect for outdoor Christmas decorations because:

  • there’s 4 of them on one string (so you only need 1 plug to light them all).
  • they have long cords between each of the lights so you can stretch them across the yard.
  • the light color is controlled by an app on your phone. Which means you can change them to pretty much any color you want.

The best part of both of these?

Since they are color changing LED lights, I put them up back in October for Halloween with a blue and orange color scheme.

Then all I had to do was change the color of the lights to green and red, and they were all set for the Christmas holiday season.

Which saves a bunch of time putting up and taking down lights.

2 | Merry Grinchmas Outdoor Sign

When I saw this Merry Grinchmas sign at Home Depot, I knew I had to have it.

It fits perfectly in front of the arbor in my front yard. And it’s one of my favorite Grinch Christmas decorations.

I even like it during the day.

Unfortunately, the exact one I used isn’t available anymore. But they have this inflatable one* that has a similar design.

3 | Grinch Stealing Lights

No collection of outdoor Grinch Christmas decorations would be complete without a Grinch stealing the lights off the house.

Or arbor in my case.

I used a single LED flood light (this one* from Amazon) set to white to make sure you could see him at night. (These are the same color changing spot lights I use for my Halloween lighting so I didn’t have to buy anything extra.)

Note: The next time I do this, I will use string lights with bigger bulbs. The small ones didn’t show up as much as I would like them to. So I ended up doubling the string up between the arbor and the Grinch. You can see the difference in this picture versus the one above (which only has one string).

I bought my yard Grinch and his sidekick Max from Etsy (The one I bought isn’t available anymore, but you can find a similar one HERE*).

The “Grinch stealing lights” outdoor figures are available from lots of different sellers so here are some other options. In all cases, you need to provide the lights.

4 | Candy cane path lights

While these red and white candy cane path lights* aren’t specifically Grinch decor, they do go very well with the theme.

I put them about a foot apart on both sides of my front sidewalk

5 | Yard Art

If you want something different than the Grinch stealing Christmas, there are other Grinch-inspired outdoor decorations available.

Especially on Etsy where they seem to be better quality than some of the others.

Here are some that I found:

6 | Outdoor Inflatables

Another Grinch outdoor decor idea is to go for one of the many inflatable decorations that are available these days.

They take up very little storage (always a bonus in my books!)

But when they’re blown up, they’re large enough to make a statement in your yard. Some are up to 9 feet tall!

Apparently, these are meant to be indoor outdoor lawn figures. But I think you’d need a bigger house than I have to use them inside 🙂

7 | Garden Flags

If you want outdoor decorations that are a little smaller, a garden flag may be just what you’re looking for.

It’s a budget-friendly way to add some Grinch themed Dr. Seuss spirit to your yard, without going overboard.

Just make sure you have a flag stand* to hang it from. They’re also inexpensive and can be re-used to hang flags for all the seasons.

8 | Fence Peeker Grinch Christmas Decorations

Another cute way to add Grinch Christmas decorations to your outdoor display is by putting up a fence (or tree) peeker.

These decorations “peek” around a tree or over the top of the fence. A very Grinch-y way to decorate your yard.

Adding lights makes it shine at night.

Or if you prefer to use it indoors, it works just as well over a fireplace mantel.

Either way, it looks much more expensive than it actually is.

10 | DIY Grinch Wreath

This easy DIY Grinch wreath is made from lime green feather boas and only takes 15 minutes to put together.

And its bright colors are sure to make a statement on your front door.

It uses a lot of the same ornaments as the garland above so you won’t need many extra supplies if you’re making both of them.

11 | Grinch Door Hangers

If you don’t feel like making anything but you still want Grinch outdoor decorations to hang on your door, then these store-bought door hangers may be just the thing:

12 | Grinch Door Mats

Door mats or outdoor rugs are another easy way to add Grinch Christmas decorations to your front porch.

You can buy them in a variety of patterns and colors, so you should be able to find one you like.

12 Awesome Grinch Outdoor Christmas Decor Ideas (47)

The one I bought isn’t specifically Grinch, but the colors tie in very well with the garland and wreath.

Some of the less expensive ones aren’t very thick but they still look good on the floor. And may be just what you need if your door doesn’t have much clearance over the ground.
