Can You Stream ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ Now?
Disney controls 20th Century Studios, but that doesn’t mean that fans can stream “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” on Disney+ or Hulu now. The film is a theatrical exclusive, but thankfully we can say for sure that it will stream on both Disney+ and Hulu once it leaves its theatrical and premium video-on-demand (PVOD) exclusivity periods. Hulu content has been available on Disney+ since December, but the official one-app experience didn't launch until March, and it’s a good bet that all blockbusters from 20th Century Studios will debut on both services going forward.
But how long will “Kingdom” take to get to theaters? The release calendar for 20th Century Studios has been a bit sparse in the past year, and the studio hasn’t had a tentpole-style film release since “Avatar: The Way of Water” in December 2022. That movie was in theaters only for nearly six months and didn’t debut on streamers until June. The studio’s recent sci-fi flick “The Creator” had a shorter pre-streaming window, staying in theaters and on PVOD platforms from September 29 through December 20, a total of 82 days.
We predict “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” will end up somewhere in the middle, and will take 119 days to reach Hulu and Disney+. That will allow the film to debut on the streamers on a Friday and will peg its arrival date as Friday, Sept. 6, the perfect way to say goodbye to the summer movie season.
